  9. Text above monument: "This Crosby was Sheriffe of London, the yeare 1470. He was the Builder of Crosby house. As appeareth by his Armes both in the Stone worke, roofe of timber, and glassing. It is a fable said of him, to be named Crosby of being found by a Crosse." (1)
