Description:
This bronze medal commemorates the British victory at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent. The reverse pictures the historic maneuver that Nelson performed by seizing a Spanish ship and using it as a bridge to seize another. The reverse of the medal pictures two Spanish ships being destroyed by Britain, the entity itself, which is depicted as a winged, woman, warrior in the sky. She is wearing traditional Greco-Roman attire and lightning bolts hail from her hands as she destroys the ships beneath her. In exergue, there are the inscriptions “SPANISH FLEET DEFEATED OFF CAPE ST VINCENT,” “XIV. FEBY MDCCLXXXXVII,” “BRENET.F.,” and ‘MUDIE.D.”
