This medal celebrates the reign of King George III of the United Kingdom. He presided over the British triumph over France during the Napoleonic Wars. The last years of his reign were overshadowed by his illness, which required a regency led by his son, the future George IV. The bronze medal commemorates George III’s reign. The verso features the king’s profile as a classical Greco-Roman character wearing a laurel; inscriptions include “HOC AUSPICE ORBIS SALVIS” (“safety of this world”); “MDCCCXVII,” “Mudie D.,” and “Webb F.”
