Description:
The verso of the bronze medal commemorates the settlement of the British at Bombay in 1662 and pictures a god-like character resting his elbow on a globe of the earth that primarily displays India and other eastern territories in Asia. The character, probably a depiction of the Roman god Neptune, is holding a British flag in one arm, and in the other a cornucopia. The inscriptions surrounding the character include “SETTLEMENT OF THE BRITISH AT BOMBAY,” “MDCLXII,” “DROZ F.,” and “MUDIE D.”
