Description
This medal celebrates the reign of King George III of the United Kingdom. The bronze medal commemorates George III’s reign. The reverse features two Graces dressed in Greco-Roman attire. The woman to the left wears a veil and holds a cross in her right hand and a lion lies at her feet. This character represents religion. She holds the hand of the woman to the right to is seated on a rock holding a cornucopia and a horn.
There are the inscriptions “RELIGIONE. FIDE ET CONSTANTIA’’ translates to ‘’by religion, faith, and consistency,” “MDCCCXVII,” “J. Mudie. D,” and “Depaulis. F.”

The reverse of the bronze medal commemorates the British victory at the Battle of Pulo Aura in 1804. The medallion features a god-like character, probably Neptune, seated on a pedestal, wearing a halo or crown, and holding in his right hand a trident and in his left the figure of an angel that symbolizes victory. On the boarder of the medal there are the following inscriptions: “THE FRENCH FLEET REPULSED BY THE E.I. COMPY.,” “XV FEB. MDCCCIV,” “MILLS F.,” and “MUDIE D.”

The verso of the bronze medal commemorates the settlement of the British at Bombay in 1662 and pictures a god-like character resting his elbow on a globe of the earth that primarily displays India and other eastern territories in Asia. The character, probably a depiction of the Roman god Neptune, is holding a British flag in one arm, and in the other a cornucopia. The inscriptions surrounding the character include “SETTLEMENT OF THE BRITISH AT BOMBAY,” “MDCLXII,” “DROZ F.,” and “MUDIE D.”

The reverse pictures the historic maneuver that Nelson performed by seizing a Spanish ship and using it as a bridge to seize another. The reverse of the medal pictures two Spanish ships being destroyed by Britain, the entity itself, which is depicted as a winged, woman, warrior in the sky. She is wearing traditional Greco-Roman attire and lightning bolts hail from her hands as she destroys the ships beneath her. In exergue, there are the inscriptions “SPANISH FLEET DEFEATED OFF CAPE ST VINCENT,” “XIV. FEBY MDCCLXXXXVII,” “BRENET.F.,” and ‘MUDIE.D.”

De Winter holds his hat in his hand as a sign of defeat as he surrenders his sword to Duncan. In exergue there is a trophy of arms celebrating the British victory and surrounding the scene are the inscriptions “DUTCH FLEET DEFEATED,” “9 SHIPS OF THE LINE CAPTURED,” “11 OCT 1797,” “W. WYON,” and “MUDIE D.”

This bronze medal commemorates the victorious British conclusion of the Napoleonic Wars. The verso features a young, spry British soldier representative of the strong British military forces. The soldier is dress in highly decorated military uniform which demonstrates the accomplishments of the British forces. Surrounding the soldier is the inscription “NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT,” which translates to “no one provokes me with impunity.” This Latin phrase developed in Scotland when the Scottish were fighting desperately form their liberation from the British; it later became the motto of Scotland. Ironically enough, the British, along with other regions, adopted this phrase as a reminder of strength and resilience.

The reverse of this medallion commemorates the surrender of the French forces in Egypt, and it features Major General Hutchinson, on the right, dressed in decorated English military uniform. On the left, the Bey, or governor, of Egypt who is dressed in Ottoman military uniform. The Bey holds his saddled horse in one arm and in the other he reviews a treaty with Hutchinson. Pyramids and ships lay in the background. Above the scene there is the inscription “EGYPT DELIVERED” and, in exergue, there are the inscriptions “SEPT II MDCCCI” “DUPRES F” and “MUDIE D.”
